NINE TRY BAPTISM
YOOO HAPPY FOURTH!!! This week was pretty sick and got some funny stuff that happened. So first off, last pday for lunch I bought like a store bought sandwich from the grocery store. It was a big sandwich in a bag with ham, cheese, and a lot of egg. It tasted great but that thing did somethin to my stomach and it qas BAD. The whole next day I was in my bed all day. I'm good now though, no more bagged sandwiches probably.
Ok now I have a wild story. So first off, our friend Ofelia got baptized this week which was awesome!! I had to baptize her 9 times though to get it right... It was crazy. The first three times, she just would flail her body when she started going down and her legs would fly up. Then I thought, "ok let's just do the baptism on our knees so she'll actually go down." We tried that twice and she still wouldn't go all the way under. She then told me she was nervous cause she's never gone completely underwater before or plugged her nose. I have no idea how that's true cause she's literally 70 years old. I decided to just wait a bit and let the font fkll up more while we waited for like 30 minutes. Then I had a great idea. I showed her the video when Alma and Helam were baptized together and they just kinda sunk into the water. I told her, "alright, I'll say the words, and you can just go straight down and sink into the water and come back up." Didn't work. We tried kneeling down again, sitting down, I tried baptizing her forward instead of backward. Nothing. Then on the ninth try I just used a little bit of force and that one was the winner!! Only took like 45 minutes!
So I guess I'm like a counselor for depressed missionaries now. The AP's asked if I'd call this elder every night for ten minutes and just talk with him cause he's new and needs people to talk to in english. Straight up like a therapist just asking him about his feelings. And there's another white missionary who's new and struggling a lot who I met and he went to the AP's and told him he was struggling and said that he wanted to do a one day exchange with me to help him feel better. They said yes and so I had to do an exchange with him and just help him out. It was a ton of fun being two white guys together here. These drunk guys bought us dinner and then at night while we were in bed, the dude just kept talking til like 3:30 in the morning. He said he feels better now though so I guess it worked.
We fired our pensionista this past week and got a new lady in the ward to do it which we are SOOOO hyped for. Our old pensionista's son would always throw up and sit our his food and throw his food at us everyday while we were eating, and the mom would do nothing. It was the worst. We dropped her.
Also this past week I literally have barely slept. I got a fan back and I swear to you, I plugged it in for 5 minutes and then I just smelt a burning sound and unplugged it and the metal plug in had melted inside of the outlet in the wall. No more fan. So at the night it's really hot and the mosquitos in our apartment is nuts and the sound of them buzzing around at night is SO LOUD I can't even sleep. They fly right around my ears I can't sleep. It's pretty brutal.
Spiritual thought: This week we've been able to help our friend Mauricio who we baptized a few ago prepare to serve a mission. He comes out with us like everyday and he's texting us all through the day just asking, "when can I go out with you guys, I'm waiting for you at my house." This kid has gone from drinking and doing drugs, to being baptized and preparing for a mission within a month. And to be able to see the change in his has been amazing. That change is real. I can see he's sooo much happier and his eyes just look lit up. It's the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life. It just shows me how we're all angels on earth here with the purpose to help people like Mauricio who are waiting for us!
